(* affiliate link) The palette today is the Catrice x Disney Villains Evil Queen Magic Mirror On The Wall eyeshadow palette! Catrice/Essence has recently released a series of collab palettes with Disney. It seems like they were first released in UK/Europe couple months ago and now finally arriving US! There are 3 Disney Villains eyeshadow palettes in this series: Ursula, Evil Queen and Maleficent; as well as 3 Disney Princess palettes: Ariel, Aurora and Snow White.
I like the simple and effective cover packaging of this Disney Evil Queen palette, it’s a classic!

About the Catrice x Disney Villains Evil Queen Magic Mirror On The Wall eyeshadow palette
This Catrice x Disney Villains Evil Queen Magic Mirror On The Wall eyeshadow palette retails for $14 USD. It contains 16 eyeshadows in total of 18 g or 0.63 oz.
There are a variety of textures and finish in this palette, including 7 mattes (Intrigue, Selfish, Envy, Throne, Anger, Bossy, Cruel), 3 satins (Revenge, Kingdom, Hunter), 2 high shine shimmers with sparkles (Power, Mirror), 2 glitters (Poison, Apple) and 2 swirl shimmers (Queen, Evil). The 2 swirl shimmers behaves like regular shimmers on the swatch or when applied on the lid.
I tried to look up information of these Catrice x Disney palettes but it seems they are mostly sold-out! The only place that I can still find selling this palette is Amazon. The other retailers like Catrice and Ulta may restock them, but as they are limited edition, grab them asap on Amazon if you’re interested!
Ingredients and formulation of the Catrice x Disney Villains Evil Queen Magic Mirror On The Wall eyeshadow palette
The ingredient list on the back of the palette does not indicate which shade is made of which ingredients, so I cannot say for sure which is which. However, there are 6 shades made with talc as the first or first few ingredients. If I have to guess, I believe those are some of the matte shadows. There is also dimethicone in many of the shades.
There are some chemical smell from the shadow if you put your face close enough, but other than that there is no fragrance. Carmine is included in the shadows.
I was expecting more from Catrice as I first tried their Badass Bae eyeshadow palette * (reviewed here) a while ago and was very impressed. However, for this Catrice x Disney Villains Evil Queen eyeshadow palette, the mattes are not pigmented. The shimmers are not as intense as I’d like either, at least compared to the Badass Bae palette.
Although the shadows feel lower quality, they are rather smooth when swatched or applied onto the lid. Very interestingly, the mattes (especially those embossed with an apple pattern on it) feel like velvet to the touch! It may sound weird, but I really like how they feel! They are non-patchy when applied with an eye brush.
For the satin, regular and swirl shimmers, they perform okay and I don’t think they are particularly good or bad, they are useable and decent.
I love the 2 high shine shimmers with sparkles shades! They are my favorite in this palette. Although not having a strong color base, they are very beautiful and reflective when dabbed on the middle of the lid with finger!
For the glitters, I’m not a big fan. It is quite messy to use glitters in general, there is fallout and you’ll find the glitters end up on your face at the end of the day, these are no exception.
Swatches for the Catrice x Disney Villains Evil Queen Magic Mirror On The Wall eyeshadow palette
When I first see the swatches of the whole palette in person, I was very underwhelmed! You are probably thinking about the same thing now. All the light beige shades look the same, the palette seems only contain coral and light beige in the swatch.
I would say the eyeshadows swatched okay in terms of quality: they are very smooth, buildable, not dry at all, and still have decent pigmentation, the only issue for me is that the color story is somewhat boring just by looking at them swatched.
4 eye looks created using the Catrice x Disney Villains Evil Queen Magic Mirror On The Wall eyeshadow palette
This is the first look at I found out how pretty was the shimmer with sparkle shade! I dabbed Mirror in the middle of the upper lid in this look. Other than that, I like this look. I wish the swirl shade I used (Queen) was more vibrant. I was disappointed that I couldn’t see any of the light olive green (which is in the pan) after I applied the shade.
I did use many different shades distinct from the first look to create this second look, they look quite similar before applying the orange glitter shade, Poison. This points to the fact that many of the eyeshadows in this palette are redundant. They could have include more different shades to make it more special.
If I were not trying to use every single shade for the purpose of reviewing this palette, I probably would never touch the glitters. I honestly don’t have much experience in using glitters, so there are probably much better ways to make them work for you than the way I used them. This look could have been prettier if the red glitter (Apple) was applied more evenly and further onto the inner lid!
This eye look 4 may have been my favorite! The light coral with the hint of sparkle from the beautiful shade Mirror gives the look a summer vibes. It is light so that means I can wear it to work easily! This is one of the looks that tells me how blendable are the mattes. I always prefer eyeshadows that are not super pigmented so that I can adjust the intensity I like.
Final Thoughts
Overall, I think this Catrice x Disney Villains Evil Queen Magic Mirror On The Wall eyeshadow palette worth the price tag for me. Compare with eye palettes or even quads that are more expensive and only give me one look (e.g., the Makeup by Mario Bronzey Glam quad * I just reviewed (see here)), I think this Evil Queen palette is a much better deal. Not only because it can be a collector’s item as a Disney fan, but also that the quality is decent. Only for eye look #4, this palette already worth the $14 USD price for me!
If you like this color story or wear a lot of coral, reddish brown eye looks, I think you would like this palette. But also prepare to work a little bit more to build up the intensity if you want more than a wash of color.
I will rate this Catrice x Disney Villains Evil Queen Magic Mirror On The Wall eyeshadow palette as:
- Texture: 8/10
- Color payoff: 5/10
- Longevity on eye lid: 6/10
- Quality consistency among shades: 8/10
- Color scheme uniqueness: 5/10
- Affordability: 9/10
