(* Affiliate link) Hey Guys! Thank you for dropping by! I have been very busy with work recently and not be able to update my blog. Glad I have a chance to write a review of this new palette that I just ordered from Sephora! It is the Patrick Ta Major Dimension Eyeshadow palette*!
This Major Dimension Eyeshadow palette looks very ordinary and everyone of us has this color story already in our collection. What makes me excited about this palette is that, it is released from Patrick Ta and it is a daily palette for me! I have high hope for Patrick Ta’s formula as his other makeup products seem to be very promising!

About the Patrick Ta Major Dimension Eyeshadow palette
This Patrick Ta Major Dimension Eyeshadow palette* retails for $ 68 USD. There are 2 cream base shades on the far left, each contains 0.065 oz (1.85 g) of product. The remaining 10 shades are all powder of 0.06 oz (1.8 g) each.
The packaging of this Major Dimension eyeshadow palette is very simple and sturdy. It has a decent weight to it. The compact is the signature rose gold plastic with mirror finish, so your fingerprints will be very visible on the palette!
I really like the idea of having a plastic cover for the cream products which are next to powder products! It keeps the cream shades clean and not drying out!
According to Patrick Ta, this Major Dimension Eyeshadow palette “FEATURES BOTH CREAM AND POWDER SHADES IN A VARIETY OF WARM AND COOL TONES, PERFECT FOR CREATING EVERYTHING FROM EVERYDAY LOOKS TO EVENT GLAM”.
It seems that Patrick Ta is famous for creating natural and beautiful contouring with his special techniques using cream and powders at the same time. I think this is unique and I’m really intrigued about how this palette performs!
As a side note, I like how he names the shadows (and also his other makeup products)! They are very feminine somehow.
Ingredients and formulation of the Patrick Ta Major Dimension Eyeshadow palette
You can find the full list of ingredients for this Major Dimension Eyeshadow palette on his website. There is no talc used in making this palette! It also doesn’t contain parabens, formaldehydes, formaldehyde-releasing agents, phthalates, mineral oil, sulfates and synthetic fragrance. It is also vegan, cruelty-free and gluten-free. Besides, except the 2 cream bases, all the powder shadows are made with shea butter as one of the ingredients.
For the formulation, the cream base shades feel like regular cream product. They are lighter on the eyelids than they look in the pans, so you don’t have to worry that being too deep when you apply them. I would say the cream shades are a little more tacky than I thought about cream products. It is less emollient than your typical cream blush or bronzer. The tackiness maybe due to the fact that they are eyeshadows and need to be more pigmented.
For the matte shades, I don’t think there is any issue to them. They are very blendable, non-patchy and very soft. They are perfect for brush application.
There are 2 shades (Lavish and Divine) that has a matte base but with very fine sparkles, similar to the ones you can find in Colourpop’s eyeshadows*. An example will be the shade ‘Made In the Shade’ from the Nook Inc palette (reviewed here). The fine sparkles do disappear when you apply and blend the shadow with a brush. These shades behave very much like ordinary mattes. They are very easily picked up with a brush.
For the shimmers/metallics, they are very different in terms of texture and formula! The deep bronze shade called Exquisite is almost like one of those crumbly shade (Sweet Lucy) from the Melt Cosmetics Mary Jane Eyeshadow palette* (reviewed here), having some fallout, but much more manageable! So I suggest to use glitter glue for this shade whenever possible.
For the rest of the shades (Legendary, Opulence and Abundance), they belong to the same type of formula that are flaky. Analogous to the shades ‘Mary Jane’ and ‘Kali’ from the Melt Cosmetics Mary Jane Eyeshadow palette* (reviewed here), but again, much more pigmented and manageable. These are toppers, but are very reflective and beautiful! It is much easier to pick up and apply onto the lid with fingers than with a brush. As they are more flaky, you may want to smooth them out after pressing them on to minimize fallout.
Swatches for the Patrick Ta Major Dimension Eyeshadow palette
The swatches of this Major Dimension Eyeshadow palette is very nice imo. All the shades are smooth, non-patchy and soft. Even the topper shades are swatched very well and uniform! There wasn’t much fallout when swatching.
Some of the lighter mattes may look very faint on the swatch, but they perform very well and look like the colors in the pan when applied onto the lid.
I also tried to layer the 3 toppers onto each of the cream shades to see if they will make them brighter and adhere better:
However, I don’t see better adherence or brighter when putting them on top of the creams. I think the cream base is mostly for helping the longevity of the eye look instead.
2 Eye looks created using the Patrick Ta Major Dimension Eyeshadow palette, with and without the cream base
To be honest, I love this eye look and I will wear this for work (maybe glam it down a bit) and for outing, but it is not a unique or special look. The toppers do help to make it extra sparkly and pretty though!
I did the exact same look but with the 2 cream bases to prime the eye first:
The one with the cream base definitely looks deeper and more sultry. It is a nighttime version of the one without cream! I love it, I love how the versatility that the cream bases give! Probably because the look becomes more smokey with the cream bases, the toppers look more reflective as well by contrast!
This second eye look is more peachy than the first one as I used the other 2 peachy shades in the palette than the first one. This is even more wearable for me in the daytime. I like how this turned out!
In this second look with cream, I was more light-handed on the cream, so it turned out to be more much deeper than the that without cream. The intensity of the look can be tuned by how much cream base you applied, it gives a lot of control on how you want the same look to appear, more everyday or more nighttime sultry!
Final Thoughts
Overall, I really like this Patrick Ta Major Dimension Eyeshadow palette in terms of the quality of the shadows and the control you can get by using the cream bases. However, this is not a unique color story and if you already have something similar, I don’t think you need this, especially given the relatively high price point of this palette. I would think this palette tends to cater towards makeup artists and people who like to ‘fine tune’ their eye looks.
The mattes perform great and the shimmers and toppers are nice but they require a bit more work. There are some fallouts of from the shimmers and the toppers are sheer if you just want to use them alone.
I will rate this Patrick Ta Major Dimension Eyeshadow palette as:
- Texture: 8/10
- Color payoff: 9/10
- Longevity on eyelid: 8/10
- Quality consistency among shades: 8.5/10
- Color scheme uniqueness: 5/10
- Affordability: 6/10
Thank you for the detailed review! For the cream bases, I got a little confused on how they work. So if you’re light handed with the cream, it’ll appear darker with the shadows on top or the more cream, the more darker the shadows will look and more sultry? Thank you!
Thanks for stopping by! Applying the cream base first does make the look slightly darker, but I’d say it’s not that much different if you only apply a layer with blending out (I used my finger). If you’d like a more intense or sultry look, putting 2-3 layers will do, you may want to use the darker cream base to achieve that. From my experience, if I’m not using the cream base, I do think the shadows fade quite a bit throughout the day. Adding a cream base in this case significantly prolong the look! Hope it helps :)!
