(*affilate link) Hey Guys! BareMinerals has recently released six new palettes, the BareMinerals Mineralist eyeshadow palettes *. They look really cute and I was very tempted to try them out. I don’t think I have tried eyeshadows from BareMinerals before!
These mini palettes are made of eco-friendly packaging. The palette is fully recyclable. Although the ‘box’ packaging of these palettes are a little bit bulky, I do think it’s a great idea for brands to use eco-friendly packaging!
I decided to try 2 of the color stories. One is a cool tone palette called Ultranatural (light pink packaging), the other is a warm tone palette called Sunlit (pale yellow packaging).

About the BareMinerals Mineralist eyeshadow palettes Ultranatural and Sunlit
Each of these BareMinerals Mineralist eyeshadow palette * retails for $32 USD. There are 6 x 1.3 g, or 6 x 0.04 oz of products in each palette. I got both the Ultranatural and Sunlit palettes from Macy’s *, which carries all the 6 Mineralist palettes. Sephora * only carries 3 out of the 6 palettes.
Each of these little palette contains different combinations of matte and satin shades, except the purple palette (Heathered), which also contains a metallic shade.
The BareMinerals Mineralist eyeshadow palette in Ultranatural * has 4 mattes and 2 satins. In terms of the color story, this is my favorite out of the six! This palette seems very wearable in a daily basis.
Sunlit * has 2 mattes and 4 satins instead. The olive green shade at the bottom row (Antiqued 5) is very beautiful.
All of these Mineralist eyeshadow palettes are listed as ‘clean’ by BareMinerals, which is talc-free and formulated without parabens, formaldehyde, synthetic fragrance and gluten. The details about their clean formula can be found in their website * if you’re interested. These products are also cruelty-free.
According to BareMinerals, these eyeshadows also contains cold-pressed botanicals that help to nourish and visibly smooth skin.
Ingredients and formulation of the BareMinerals Mineralist eyeshadow palettes Ultranatural and Sunlit
BareMinerals is one of a few brands that I trust for the quality and type of ingredients that they use in their makeup products! As mentioned above, these eyeshadow palettes are talc-free and made with clean ingredients.
Regarding the formulation, we’ll look at the Mineralist palette in Ultranatural first!
Although Ultranatural is my favorite color story among all the six palettes, it is indeed very disappointing! I was shocked that none of the mattes are pigmented, even the darkest shade.
I couldn’t get any pigments from the matte shades to show up on my eye lid! I got minimal pigment when I jabbed my brush (I used Sonic G natural hair brushes) into the pans! It took me a long time to just get the darkest shade to show up a little bit on the lid. Besides, it is not very blendable. As you can see from my eye look below, the darkest shade looks really patchy. I can’t comment on the blendability of other matte shades as I couldn’t even get they to show up.
The satins are better as they at least showed up on the lid (I used finger to apply). They are pretty as a light wash of pale pink color.
For the Sunlit palette, it is much better in quality than Ultranatural. Although I don’t expect eyeshadows from BareMinerals to be super pigmented, shadows in the Sunlit palette showed up well on the lid.
The satins in the Sunlit palette are smooth and pigmented. The mattes are more blendable than those in the Ultranatural palette, but still need improvement.
Swatches for the BareMinerals Mineralist eyeshadow palettes Ultranatural and Sunlit
With finger swatches, both palettes appear decent in terms of pigmentation. The Ultranatural palette is still on the lighter side though.
I think the textures of the eyeshadows in these two palettes are rather different. Shades in Ultranatural are generally harder than those in Sunlit, especially the mattes.
A pro of these palettes is that, the shades are very true to the color you see in the pans.
Eye looks created using the BareMinerals Mineralist eyeshadow palettes Ultranatural and Sunlit
First off is the Ultranatural palette. The look was very light in color, as the mattes are almost without any pigment. I tried to use the darkest shade to deepen my outer corner, but it was very patchy and didn’t want to blend, it almost just look like dirt on my face. I am quite disappointed with this palette.
The second look created using the Sunlit palette is also pretty light. The mattes performed slightly better than the ones in the Ultranatural palette: they are more pigmented. I like how simple this bronzy golden look is, definitely suitable for wearing to work.
I used all the shades in each palette to generate the looks.
Final Thoughts
Overall, I will not recommend the BareMinerals Mineralist eyeshadow palettes in Ultranatural, even if you prefer ‘no makeup’ makeup look. This palette is not pigmented and hard to use.
For the Sunlit palette, if you’re looking for an everyday palette that gives you one or two simple look and a wash of color, I think you may like this. Given the clean ingredients and the environmentally friendly packaging, I think the Sunlit palette is worth looking into if you’re interested.
Although I don’t know how the other 4 palettes perform, based on these 2 that I tried, I don’t think I’ll spend another $32 USD on trying any of the other palettes. There are a lot of options out there that can give you similar results. There are better value palettes from other brands out there. Like the On-the-go eyeshadow palettes from Sigma Beauty * (reviewed here), which performs really well, they also use clean ingredients and are talc-free!
