(* affiliate link) This Jeffree Star Cosmetics Blood Sugar mini eyeshadow palette is my first ever purchase from this brand. I ordered this palette during the recent gift card event from Beautylish! The color story of this Blood Sugar mini palette is just intriguing to me. Perhaps I’m more into red/cherry tone palettes in the spring time, like the Violet Voss I Love U Cherry Much palette * (reviewed here)! This palette stood out to me.
Now that I’ve bought this Blood Sugar mini eyeshadow palette, I think Jeffree Star’s bigger palettes are very beautiful in terms of color stories and the packaging! I like the packaging on this one too.

About the Jeffree Star Cosmetics Blood Sugar mini eyeshadow palette
This Jeffree Star Cosmetics Blood Sugar mini eyeshadow palette retails for $28 USD, containing 1.5 g or 0.05 oz of products per shade. It is available in both Beautylish‘s and Jeffree Star’s websites. This palette is said to be a limited edition.
If you have Jeffree Star’s original 18-pan Blood Sugar palette, you basically already own this mini palette, except the one shade in the center of this mini palette, called Wisdom.
Notice that the first shade (Glucose) is white, and the next shade (Sugarcane) is a pale dusty light pink to me (despite it is described as a ‘cool tone brown’). I think some of the pictures I took for this palette have a shift in the white balance, probably because this palette is so red both for the packaging and the eyeshadows! For the shades in the first row, I would say the actual colors look closer to the ones shown online, but for the last row, it is more accurate here.
From the product description, this Blood Sugar mini palette is claimed to have ‘high color payoff and long-lasting stay without fallout’. They are also ‘deeply pigmented’.
Ingredients and formulation of the Jeffree Star Cosmetics Blood Sugar mini eyeshadow palette
It maybe a little difficult to read, but all of the shades in this Jeffree Star Cosmetics Blood Sugar mini eyeshadow palette contain talc as the main ingredient. More than half of the shades have talc as the 1st or 2nd ingredient.
From the packaging, there is a warning sign saying pressed pigments are not supposed to use around the immediate eye area. However, I am confused as they do not tell which are the pressed pigments. Are they all pressed pigments? Nothing was mentioned in the description either. I don’t know if I just missed the label or something, but I wish they are more clear about that as this maybe important to some people.
Blood Sugar mini palette is shown as cruelty-free and vegan. There is a sugary sweet scent from the shadow, but it is not noticeable unless sticking your nose close to the shadows. The scent is also not detectable when I was using the palette.
About the formulation, the mattes in the first row are very soft and creamy, very easy to blend, although the first two shades (Glucose and Sugarcane) are not showing up well at least on my skin tone. For the matte in the third row, they perform also very nicely, but feels like more hard pressed into the pan. As a result, they feel less creamy and not as saturated. I need to build up the purple for a bit before it shows up. None of them are patchy or difficult to work with.
For the shimmers/metallics in the second row, they are all smooth and buttery. It is interesting that each of them feels like a different texture or formulation. Candy Floss is very easy to pick up by finger or brush. It is however a thicker formula. It immediately reminds me of the shimmers in the XX Revolution RefleXXion Tender eyeshadow palette (reviewed here), or in the XX Revolution XXpress Quad Shadow Palette in XXposed * (reviewed here).
The new shade in this Blood Sugar mini palette, Wisdom, is a shimmer with some gold glitters and it feels slightly drier to the touch. Although this shade is described as a duochrome, I cannot see a shift in colors, it just looks red with glitters to me. It is a bold shade.
The last shimmer on this row is Sweetener, this is my absolute favorite in this Blood Sugar palette! I love this shade. Again, this has a different texture than the first two shimmers. It is harder pressed and not a thick formula. No matter I use finger or brush, Sweetener doesn’t show up as well as the other shimmers. Although it still has a good pigmentation (see the swatch and the YouTube video below), it only gives a light sheen on the lid.
As for the fallout, I can hardly see any after making my eye looks.
Swatches for the Jeffree Star Cosmetics Blood Sugar mini eyeshadow palette
The swatches of this Blood Sugar mini palette is very nice. They all looks smooth and non-patchy. All of them also appear to be true to the shades in the pan. I do not own the original full size Blood Sugar palette, so I cannot tell if they are the same quality though.
For my personal preference and the looks that I usually go for, I really like the color story of 2/3 of the palette (the last row is too bold for me), I wish there were more everyday colors like browns or more muted red in the bottom row. Three big red shades in a mini 9-pan palette is a lot, even though it is the theme color.
Besides, I was also expecting the white matte to be more pigmented than it is. You can build up the intensity but it requires some effort.
2 eye looks created using the Jeffree Star Cosmetics Blood Sugar mini eyeshadow palette
I actually really like the end result of this first eye look! It feels more cherry than the I Love U Cherry Much palette * from Violet Voss imo. All the shades blend and work well together. Although the occasions that I’ll wear this look is very limiting, I adore this look. I mixed the purple shade (Coma) with the reds to create the fuchsia shade in the outer corner. I love the shade Sweetener (the coral shimmer).
At the inner corner, I layered the white shade (Glucose) on top of Sweenter, and this helped it to show up much better.
This second look is more like in my comfort zone! Although the shades that I used also work well together, I think I can create this look using any one palette in my collection. The shade Glucose was not showing up too well on me when used as a crease shade.
Final Thoughts
Overall, I like this Jeffree Star Cosmetics Blood Sugar mini eyeshadow palette, but not loving it. If you already have the full size Blood Sugar palette, you don’t need to get this mini palette, which only have 1 new red shade. Although the red shadow look this palette can create is pretty, I will recommend this palette to you only if you like and will wear red eyeshadow looks enough to justify spending $28 USD.
I’m happy to have this palette in my collection for the sake of being an eyeshadow lover, and the quality of the shadows are pretty decent. But the formulations of the shadows here are not must-haves. As I mentioned before, some palettes from Revolution Beauty * are really nice in quality, which are much more affordable and they also have sale from time to time.
I’m still a little disappointed on my favorite shade, Sweetener, in that it is hard to pick up and the pigmentation is not as great. As well as the fact that they do not clearly state which shades are pressed pigments.
I will rate this Jeffree Star Cosmetics Blood Sugar mini eyeshadow palette as:
