There are so many lip glosses available in the market and new ones just keep coming out everyday, but is there a formula that stands out from the rest and worth the hype? I found my answer recently! It is the Bobbi Brown Crushed Oil-infused Gloss! In the Buff and Free Spirit are the two shades that I’m going to review, with comparisons from other brands like Pat McGrath, Stila and Fenty.

What are the Bobbi Brown Crushed Oil-infused Gloss?
According to Bobbi brown, they are ‘non-sticky, moisturizing lip gloss infused with a blend of nutrient-rich botanical oils in 12 sheer shades from bare to berry to bold’.
I seldom completely trust the descriptions from the brands themselves. I’m not a lip gloss girl and I don’t wear them often. They can make your lips look juicy and plumped, but you know, they’re usually more or less sticky, easily get caught by hair, transfer with the tiniest bit of contact, all these ‘good stuff’! I have not found one yet that really encourages me to use lip gloss more often.
Bobbi Brown Crushed Oil-infused Gloss In the Buff and Free Spirit
I was totally skeptical about the ‘non-sticky’ claim, but I decided to give it a try during some sort of 50% off sale from Macy’s a while ago. They regularly retail for $29 USD, so it was a steal to get them at half-off price!
The first thing I noticed was that they look sort of similar in terms of the actual shade (they look almost identical in photos!). However, when you see them in person, you’ll know they are different: In the Buff is more like a true pink and is more vibrant. While Free Spirit is a bit deeper, more like a nude leaning towards cinnamon or terracotta.
Bobbi Brown Crushed Oil-infused gloss In the Buff and Free Spirit: a month after use
The first time I tried them on, I was a very pleasantly surprised by how light weight they feel on the lip. While they still look opaque and covering my natural lip color, they are really non-sticky!
The shades are very similar on my lip as expected, but I do see a slight difference. In the buff is more pink and Free spirit is more brown/cinnamon. They are very pretty on the lip! It feels very hydrating too! If you like lip products that are ‘my lip but better’, they are a perfect option!
Also, because the shades are pretty light in color, even when they transfer to a glass or something, it is not super obvious. I reach for them A LOT! Much more than I had on any lip gloss ever!
Comparison with other brands: Pat McGrath, Stila, Fenty Beauty
The Bobbi Brown Crushed Oil-infused Gloss In the Buff and Free Spirit have exceeded my expectation. I’ve used glosses from quite many different brands before (Pat McGrath, Nars, Buxom, Too Faced, Marc Jacobs, Bite, Stila, Fenty Beauty, etc), I could say that this is the best I tried in terms of formula and comfort on the lip imo.
I’m comparing glosses that I currently own that are similar in shade (sorry the swatches and the words are smooshed together!):
They indeed look pretty close when comparing side-by-side. I think it is worthwhile to try the formula of these Bobbi Brown Crushed Oil-infused glosses, but the shades are not very unique (at least for the two shades that I got).
The LUST gloss from Pat McGrath feels much thicker and the Fenty gloss is rather sheer. I also like the Beauty Boss gloss from Stila. The shade Win-win is very flattering without being too deep for me, it is also very comfortable to wear. I would rank the Stila Beauty Boss gloss as the second place for all the glosses that I tried so far!
Final Thoughts for the Bobbi Brown Crushed Oil-infused gloss In the Buff and Free Spirit
I highly recommend this Bobbi Brown lip gloss. It does exactly what it claims! The one neutral thing that I would say about them is that, some shades are too similar (like In the Buff and Free Spirit) and you definitely don’t need both of them. I have no idea how the darker shades perform or feel on the lip though. Maybe they are more patchy than lighter shades but I can’t speak for them.
Overall, I’ll rate these Bobbi Brown Crushed Oil-infused gloss In the Buff and Free Spirit as:
- Texture: 10/10
- Comfort: 10/10
- Transfer-proof: 6/10
- Opaqueness: 9/10
- Color range: 7/10
- Affordability: 6/10
