Dior 649 Nude Dress is one of the quints from their new 5 Couleurs Couture collection. If you are interested in other quints as well, you can check out the reviews on 859 Pink Corolle here, 769 Tutu here and 879 Rouge Trafalgar here.

Dior 649 Nude Dress is one of the most generic-looking palettes that seems inconspicuous among the rest in this new collection. However, the color scheme actually caught my attention. It is a great everyday fail-safe palette for fair to light skin tones.

About the Dior 649 Nude Dress palette

This Dior 649 Nude Dress eyeshadow palette retails for $62 USD. You can get it from many retailers at this moment, such as Sephora, Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s and Macy’s. It seems you cannot get this through Dior’s website anymore.

Palettes in this Dior 5 Couleurs Couture collection are described as having ‘a creamy and comfortable texture that does not migrate into the crease of the eyelid’, and the shades give ‘intense colour with extreme wear’.

Unlike the baked eyeshadow formula from Dior, the eyeshadows in this palette are mainly made of talc, having it as the first ingredient in most shades.

This palette is made in France and there is no detectable fragrance. Paraben is not found in the ingredient list, but it is also not specified in their product description.

All the shades in this palette are very soft and as you can see they are very fragile too! They should be handled with care and not to be dropped onto the ground.

There is one matte brown in the palette, all other shades have a sheen to it. Unlike the 769 Tutu and the 879 Rouge Trafalgar palettes, which both have a sheer topper shade at the upper right hand corner, the white shimmer shade in Nude Dress has a white base to it. It is more opaque and visible than the toppers.

Other than the white shade, the other 3 shimmers in this palette are all a little bit different. The shade on the upper left hand corner is very creamy, smooth and soft. It is the most sparkly shade among the 3.

The peachy shimmer in the middle of the palette is a bit stiffer and pressed hardly into the pan.

The taupe shade at the lower left hand corner is also very creamy and metallic.

The various formulae in this palette coordinate very well in making an elegant eye look.

Two shades in this palette are different from what I expected from the pans. The first one is the top left bronze shade. In the swatches, it appeared as a muted pink. I love pink colors, so it is a pleasant surprise.

The other shade is the peach shade, it is a bit chalky and does not look peach or coral in the swatches. I was disappointed by this shade not only because it is much lighter and not peachy, but also because there is not enough color payoff from it.

The matte brown is smooth and not patchy. It feels silky to the touch.

The taupe shimmer is a little light in color but it is also very creamy and smooth, while the white sparkly shade is harder pressed and behaves like a topper except there is more pigmentation from it.

This first eye look I created with this palette is very soft and pinky, even though the bronze shade at the top left doesn’t seem to carry a dusty neutral pink vibe! It turned out to be very pretty. This is the kind of eye look that I’ll want to wear everyday. The look created is reminiscent to the one created with the cool pink shade from the Tom Ford Soleil First Frost eye quad.

In the second eye look. I used all the shades in this palette. The matte brown can be built up to be more intense, but I just wanted a soft look, so I didn’t intensify it so much. All the shades blend beautifully and effortlessly on the lid.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I like this Dior 649 Nude Dress palette. If you have fair to light skin tone, I think you will enjoy this palette more as the shades tend to be lighter. Although I believe this palette can easily be duped, I like a handy small palette for travel or on the go. You can’t go wrong with it! Besides, you can also create a ‘no makeup’ makeup look with the shades in the palette.

I will rate this Dior 649 Nude Dress palette as:

  • Texture: 9.5/10
  • Color payoff: 7.5/10
  • Longevity on eye lid: 10/10
  • Quality consistency among shades: 8/10
  • Color scheme uniqueness: 7/10
  • Affordability: 6.5/10
