(*affiliate link) I am not too much a matte lip girl, most of the matte lipstick I tried are dry and patchy. But last year, I found one that I really adore and wanted to expand my collection since then! It is the Rouge Dior Ultra Care Liquid Lipstick! The shade 639 Wonder was the first shade that I got through Sephora* VIB sale.
In an attempt to try more matte liquid lipsticks in 2021, I ordered 2 more of this same line recently. The 2 new additions are Rouge Dior Ultra Care Liquid Lipstick 446 Whisper and 539 Petal.

About the Rouge Dior Ultra Care Liquid Lipstick
Each of these Rouge Dior Ultra Care Liquid Lipstick retails for $38 USD. There are 0.2 fl oz or 6 ml of product in each tube. I got mine in Sephora*.
These Rouge Dior Ultra Care Liquid Lipsticks are said to last for 12 hours and are ‘infused with flower oil for an ultra-weightless, ultra-care, and moisturizing comfort’.
There are 2 finishes in these liquid lipsticks, on Sephora‘s* page, there are 13 matte shades and 9 satin shades. But in Dior‘s* website, there are 15 mattes and 10 satins. The shades that are not in Sephora but in other retails are, 459 Flower (matte), 829 Jungle (matte), 655 Dream (satin).
The applicator of these Rouge Dior Ultra Care Liquid Lipstick is ‘micro-flocked’ and petal-shaped, which allows precise application. I don’t have any trouble to get a clean edge on the lip using these applicators, which can be tricky with liquid lipsticks.
The 3 shades that I got are:
The shade 446 Whisper is described as rosy nude matte.
The shade 539 Petal is described as intense peach matte.
The shade 639 Wonder is described as beige nude matte.
Ingredients and formulation of the Rouge Dior Ultra Care Liquid Lipstick
The ingredient highlights and benefits of these Rouge Dior Ultra Care Liquid Lipsticks are:
- Camelina Oil: Hydrates
- Almond Oil: Soothes
- Shea Butter: Moisturizes
The liquid lipsticks do contain fragrance as listed in the ingredients. I am not a big fan of the fragrance. It smells perfumy and a bit overpowering for me. It doesn’t put me off or deter me from using them, but I would rather them fragrance-free, or at least a yummy smell like vanilla or some sort of cakes.
For the formulation of these Rouge Dior Ultra Care Liquid Lipstick, they feel very light-weighted and I am really happy that they are not drying at all, and pretty moisturizing for a matte liquid lipstick. I think the coverage of these liquid matte lipsticks is high, they are quite opaque on my lip.
My lip is always dry and it doesn’t crack or pill whenever I use these Dior liquid lipsticks. I think this is a big big thumb’s up for me!
For the wear time, I don’t think they last 12 hours on me. If I don’t drink or eat, maybe, but it’s next to impossible to do in real life. At the end of the day, some color usually remains, but are mostly gone. I would say it lasts a good 6 hours on me with minimal drinking and eating.
One last thing about matte liquid lipstick that many people care is whether and how much they transfer after setting/drying down. For these Dior liquid lipsticks, I don’t think they will completely dry down, which is also why they are moisturizing. They are also not 100% transfer-proof, but the transfer is only a little if you blot your lips with a tissue paper after setting (~2-3 minutes). However if you rub them (which maybe the case when you’re wearing a face mask), most of them will come off.
Lip and arm swatches for the Rouge Dior Ultra Care Liquid Lipstick 446 Whisper, 539 Petal and 639 Wonder
As I mentioned above, I got the shade 639 Wonder when they first came out last year. I was very impressed by the color and performance of the liquid lipstick. I love how nice a ‘my lip but better’ shade is 639 Wonder! The lipstick glide on my lip with a creamy and smooth feeling to it. Although it does not completely look matte, the quality is wonderful and very comfortable to wear. The actual shade on my lip is lighter than the medium beige shown online.
For the shade 446 Whisper, I think the lip and arm swatches of the online promo pictures look more coral than it really is (at least on my lip). When I first put it on, I even thought it looked like light neon pink in color. I can’t see why it is described as rosy nude, because it is not rosy nor nude imo.
Color of the online promo pictures for 539 Petal is more comparable. I still wish it was a bit more muted on my lip. 539 Petal is a pretty color, but I just don’t think I’ll get a lot of use out of this shade in daily life. My favorite is still 639 Wonder.
For the arm swatches, they are very similar as the lip swatches. Since the shades are quite opaque and you can layer them without compromising the texture and longevity, I think the same shade should be pretty similar on anyone’s lip given it’s not too pigmented.
Final Thoughts
Overall, the formula and quality of these matte Rouge Dior Ultra Care Liquid Lipsticks are fantastic. I highly recommend them to anyone. They are very hydrating and comfortable to wear, and at the same time only have minimal transfer. The level of hydration is comparable to my other favorite lip gloss from Bobbi Brown, the Crushed Oil-Infused Gloss* (reviewed here). They are pricey but I think one tube can last you for a while.
However, one thing that I would really like them to change is the fragrance smell. Although the fragrance does not linger too long, the moment I put these lipstick on, I almost want to hold my breath.
I will rate these Rouge Dior Ultra Care Liquid Lipsticks as:
- Texture: 10/10
- Comfort: 9/10
- Transfer-proof: 7.5/10
- Opaqueness: 9/10
- Color range: 8.5/10
- Affordability: 6/10
