Recently some drug store or more affordable makeup brands are making really nice and high quality eyeshadow palettes, which only cost half or less of those from high end brands.
There are a couple of drug store brands that I really enjoy and I think they deserve more attention. For instance, I tried the Zodiac Love Sign palette from BH Cosmetics and the Melted Chrome single eyeshadows from Essence a while ago. I was so impressed by them that I want to try more from these brands!
Many of these nice affordable eyeshadow palettes are very comparable, if not better, in quality than some high end brands.
The XX Revolution RefleXXion Tender eyeshadow palette is a very good example that blew my mind with its quality! I’m eager to check out what else does Revolution Beauty has in store (in the particular from the line ‘XX Revolution‘)!

About the XX Revolution RefleXXion Tender eyeshadow palette
This XX Revolution RefleXXion Tender eyeshadow palette retails for $16 USD with 9 shades. There are 2 other color stories (purple/mauve and orange/gold) in this XX Revolution RefleXXion collection.
I first knew about this line from watching my favorite YouTuber’s videos. They say that XX Revolution’s XXpress eyeshadow quads are apparently known to be dupes for some of the Charlotte Tilbury’s Luxury Eyeshadow Palettes. In this order, I also got the XX Revolution XXpress eyeshadow quad in XXposed, a dupe for CT’s iconic Pillow Talk eyeshadow palette! I can’t wait to compare them!
This XX Revolution RefleXXion Tender eyeshadow palette reminds me of the 9-pan mini palettes from Huda Beauty (Khaki Haze Obsession Palette’s review is here), but this Tender palette is a giant version of the Haze Obsessions palettes (0.27 oz/9 g versus 0.2 oz/5.8 g of products)!
The packaging of this palette is hard plastic and weighty, very protective of the shadows inside. There is also a full size mirror inside. It is really nice for the price.
Ingredients and formulation of the XX Revolution RefleXXion Tender eyeshadow palette
There are 3 pressed pigments in this palette, which are the 2 at either upper corners and the middle one at the bottom row. They didn’t have any warning for using pressed pigments on the lid, but I guess it’s a general precaution to use carefully on the eye.
Unlike most of the other eyeshadow palettes in Revolution Beauty, this XX Revolution line in particular seems to use better ingredients and does not include talc in their formulae. However, they are also priced higher than many other affordable brands.
I like the color story of this palette! The picture they show online in their website does not do this palette justice. They rosy pink at the upper left is gorgeous! All other shades look a notch better in person in my opinion.
For the shimmers, I think they are slightly thicker than, say, the ones in Huda Beauty’s Khaki Haze Obsessions palette. It is fine to use, but has some fallout and can be a bit crumbly.
All the shades are very smooth, soft to the touch and opaque. The smoothness of the shades reminds me of the Nars Extreme Effects eyeshadow palette.
Swatches for the XX Revolution RefleXXion Tender eyeshadow palette
As someone who doesn’t wear too deep an eyeshadow look, this XX Revolution RefleXXion Tender eyeshadow palette is right up my alley! The purple looks deeper in the pan than it really is on the swatches.
Like I said before, the only thing that I want to change about this palette is to have thinner shimmer shades. Other than that, the quality and color scheme are perfect to me!
2 eye looks created using the XX Revolution RefleXXion Tender eyeshadow palette
I just feel happy whenever I see the rosy pink shade and use it on my lid! It is a pressed pigment, so I try to use it sparingly and carefully on the lid. The resulting look is amazing! Even though this is not a look that I would wear on a daily basis or to work, I really love it.
This second eye look is also very flattering on my skin tone. I like how subtle the purple shade is showing up on the lid. I think this look is great for a date out or a night time look.
I just created two looks for now with this palette, however, I can see much more different looks can be generated using other shade combinations. It is a great handy palette for many occasions!
Final Thoughts
Overall, I highly recommend this palette. Although it is not from a high end brand, its quality and performance are very comparable to a high end palette. I can easily see myself grab this palette more often than the Nars Extreme Effects palette if I want to create a rosy eye look or even just a casual look.
I can’t think of any bad things to say about this palette from the ingredients to the performance on the lid. Plus it is in a very good price point!
