Sephora Holiday Savings Event 2020 Haul #1: Skin care items
Dior Capture Youth Glow Booster Age-Delay Illuminating serum
This Dior Capture Youth Glow Booster Age-Delay Illuminating serum retails for $95 USD with 1 fl oz or 30 ml of product. This is the second bottle I got so far.
It is a very lightweight liquidy serum that has added fragrance to it. It doesn’t smell overpowering but still noticeable when you apply it onto your face. The good thing is the smell is refreshing, doesn’t smell like a perfume and it doesn’t linger after it’s absorbed.
Other than the thin liquidy texture of this Dior face serum, I also like that it is not oily or tacky during or after application. It moisturizes my skin too.
Usually the next today after using this serum (I always use vitamin C skin care products at night only), my face looks brighter and smoother the next morning. It’s probably also because the AHA is working throughout the night to smooth the skin at the same time. I don’t usually use it every night as I’ve other face serums in rotation. I only use about 2-3 times a week.
Peter Thomas Roth Retinol Fusion PM Night Serum
This Peter Thomas Roth Retinol Fusion PM Night Serum retails for $65 USD with 1 fl oz or 30 ml of product.
I am interested in trying out this retinol night serum out since the last Sephora VIB sale. I didn’t get it last time because it is pricey and I already spent a lot on other stuff, but I’m glad I got it this time!
Part of the reason why I wanted to try out this retinol night serum from Peter Thomas Roth is because of the short list of ingredients they included to make this night serum! I know I’m allergic to a certain ingredients found in common skin care or even makeup products from my dermologist, and nothing I’m allergic to is listed in this serum, which is a rare find for me! Plus fragrance-free is always a good friend for people with skin allergy.
I used this Peter Thomas Roth retinol night serum for couple nights now and it is not causing any allergic reactions to me. I don’t see any big changes on my face just yet but I like the texture of it: lightweight and non-sticky or oily. It is a keeper for me now! I’ve hope for this product as it has solid ingredients. The ‘time-release’ encapsulated retinol sounds promising.
Fresh Lotus Youth Preserve Rescue Mask
This Fresh Lotus Youth Preserve Rescue Mask retails for $ 62 USD with 3.3 fl oz or 100 ml of product.
This Lotus mask from Fresh is also a re-purchase for me. I got a sample and then two small tubs of this mask (probably around 30 ml) before. I wanted to also get a small one not only because I don’t go through masks quickly, but also because I use different masks every week. However, I’m not sure if they have already discontinued the smaller size or just temporarily out, I cannot find it anymore on Sephora’s website.
I just hope they at least don’t phase out this mask as it is the best mask from Fresh in my opinion!
I did reviewed this mask before in my blog post ‘3 great facial masks that give you a glowing skin‘. It is one of my mask routine that I highly recommend for regular use.
In brief, it’s an exfoliating mask that has a very smoothing base to it. My face immediately feels very smooth and very hydrated after washing off the mask! It is a mask that I keep coming back to and always a re-purchase for me!
Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream to Brighten and Depuff
This Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream to Brighten and Depuff retails for $33 USD with 0.5 fl oz (15 ml) or $27 with 0.34 fl oz (10 ml) of product. I got the latter one (mini).
As with many other people, I’m always on the hunt of an effective eye cream for my concerns (dark circle, wrinkles). So far, I have yet to find one that really worked for me without ingredients that I’m allergic to (yeah.. added difficulty!).
Based on the good reviews and what it claims to do with the ingredients (and the reason price), I decided to give it a go. I only used a couple times of this product, so I don’t have much to say about its effectiveness yet.
For the texture of this Origins eye cream, it feels not too thin or heavy and it is adsorbed well to the eye area. However it does contain some sort of shimmer in the product itself, it probably helps to reflect light to make the under eye area brighter, which I’m not a big fan of. I wish the product has no shimmer but has a real effect instead.
Origins Hello Calm™ Relaxing & Hydrating Face Mask with Hemp Seed Oil
Here is another Origins product, the Origins Hello Calm™ Relaxing & Hydrating Face Mask with Hemp Seed Oil. It retails for $28 USD with 2.5 oz or 75 ml of product.
This is the 4th mask from Origins that I tried so far. I think their mask are usually quite hydrating and to a certain extend make your skin smoother. I only used this mask once but people seems to like this mask from the reviews.
I usually just put a mask on after I went home and washed my face. I don’t expect this mask to do wonders to my skin, but just something hydrating and less expensive for everyday causal use. I think it is a good option so far.
Shiseido Facial Cotton
This Shiseido Facial Cotton retails for $12 USD with 165 sheets of cotton pads.
This is the first time I order/use this product. I heard something good about it. Probably nothing can go wrong with it. It is made in Japan and seems quite soft and gentle to the skin!

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder
This Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder retails for $48 USD with 0.35 oz or 10 g of products.
This powder is no stranger to most people as it is a popular item for makeup lovers!
I first being introduced to this product when I got the Ambient Lighting Edit Face Palette – Ghost from Hourglass last year. I had not been using pressed powder since I started using loose powder to set my foundation. However, I was impressed by how smooth my skin looks after using this Ambient Lighting powder in Diffused Light! A big thumbs up is how good this powder makes my makeup looks at the end of the day! My skin still looks smooth and not creased at my smile lines after a whole day!
It is pretty pricey but I think it is worth it. You don’t need much to set the face. Others I like about this Hourglass Ambient lighting powder is that it is completely talc-free and fragrance-free!
Charlotte Tilbury Luxury Eyeshadow Palettes in Pillow Talk and Green Lights
These Charlotte Tilbury Luxury Eyeshadow Palettes retail for $53 USD each with 4 x 0.17 oz or 5 g of product.
I know the Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk palette is one of her bestselling and most hyped palette. I did not own this until now! Sometimes I just don’t get a product until long after it is released… I guess this palette is one of those items..
I haven’t used the Pillow Talk palette yet, but I am so excited and happy that I also got the Green Lights palette! Olive green is the color of this year (and maybe next year too?) and I really liked the eye looks that I got from this palette.
Heard that the Green Lights palette is the same as her other palette, the Rebel. They look a bit different on the photos from Charlotte Tilbury’s and Sephora’s website. So I’m incompletely sure if they are 100% the same palette or there’re still some difference?
For the Green Lights palette, the shadows are very soft, smooth and pigmented. I’ll be doing a review on it very soon.

Moroccanoil Great Hair Day Set
This Moroccanoil Great Hair Day Set retails for $48 USD. It contains a full size of 3.4 fl oz or 100 ml of the Moroccanoil Treatment plus a Ceramic Paddle Brush. The Moroccanoil treatment oil itself sells for $44 USD and the Ceramic paddle brush for $28 USD. So this set is definitely a very good deal!
I have been using this Moroccanoil Treatment for the longest time for my hair. I’ve used up 2+ bottles so far. I still have my 100 ml bottle half way full and this time I got this set just for my mom, so I’m not gonna open this.
The Moroccanoil treatment oil makes my hair shiny and stronger. It is miraculously not oily at all after I’ve applied it to my hair. It also smells fantastic! I use two pumps every time and my hands and hair never feel greasy after using it.
Summary
A couple of the products are re-purchase and I’m glad I got them before they’re sold out during this Sephora Holiday Savings Event 2020! For other new products, I’ll try to report an update if they’re effective for me.
I’m quite certain I’ll do another purchase or two before the sale ends on Monday. I wish some items are back in stock by the time I make the orders, like the ‘Full-Size Hydra Gel Eye Patch Party’ from Peter Thomas Roth and the Soft Pinch Liquid Blush in Joy from Rare Beauty.
