Here is another Holiday 2020 eyeshadow release! The Bobbi Brown Luxe Encore Eye Shadow Palette Burgundy.
This Burgundy palette is one of the two Luxe Encore Eye Shadow palettes in this format. The other is a warm brown/golden tone palette. The pink in the lower right hand corner calls my name! It is a very wearable palette.

About the Bobbi Brown Luxe Encore Eye Shadow Palette Burgundy
This Bobbi Brown Luxe Encore Eye Shadow Palette Burgundy retails for $55 USD. It is available from Bobbi Brown, Sephora and almost all other major department stores. I got mine during the Sephora VIB sale in early November this year.
In Bobbi Brown’s website, this eyeshadow palette is described as ‘four bouncy geleé shadows in the season’s most luminous palette. Open for one-stroke color and creamy, multidimensional effects. Dressed in gold with watercolor art by Cecilia Carlstedt, inspired by the energy of dance and the holidays in New York City’.
Same as the holiday 2020 palettes, Golden Slipper Eye Shadow palette (review here) and the High Barre Eye Shadow palette (review here), this eye quad has the gorgeous packaging with watercolor art designed by Cecilia Carlstedt. The palette also has magnetic closure, same as her other 2020 holiday palettes.
I just love how Bobbi Brown cares and pays attention to all the details in the packaging of the actual palette and the box of these holiday palettes! It adds more to just a makeup palette. They are a collectible set of art pieces.
The palette is made in Italy.
Ingredients and formulation of the Bobbi Brown Luxe Encore Eye Shadow Palette Burgundy
As far as I know, all of her powder eye shadows are made of talc as the first ingredient. Only her luxe single eye shadows are talc-free (at least not listed). This is a new formula from her that also contains talc but is the 6th ingredient in the list.
Please refer to the Bobbi Brown website for a full list of ingredients for this Luxe Encore Eye Shadow Palette if you’re interested.
This palette is also paraben-free, phthalate-free, sulfate-free and do not have any fragrance.
This new formula has a bouncy or putty texture. The shadows can be pressed inside the pans like the Stila Heaven’s Hue highlighters. Bobbi Brown refers this formula as ‘glides on pure color payoff in a comfortable and creamy, crease-proof, fade-proof, 8-hour formula’.
I agree these eye shadows are very creamy, smooth and long wear, but they are not as pigmented as I thought from seeing the colors in the pans. They are smoothing on the lid and do not have any fallout for me, but the impact is not quite enough imo.
Swatches for the Bobbi Brown Luxe Encore Eye Shadow Palette Burgundy
The shadows are very smooth and pretty opaque without any patchiness on the swatches and also on the lid. However, on my skin tone, the top two shades in the palette are very similar and almost blend into my skin.
It was almost underwhelming when I swatches the top two shades. It was somewhat lackluster imo. The formula is thin and lightweighted but a bit sheer. You will know what I meant if you watch the swatching video below.
The peachy/light pink shade on the upper right hand corner has a gold shift to it. It is pretty, but as the base color of this shade doesn’t have a whole lot of contrast to my skin tone, it is not a very noticeable shade on me. I can see some sparkle or the shift at an angle but not adding much color to my lid.
You may think the upper and lower shades on the right of the palette are quite different, at least on the swatches, but they are indeed very close on my lid. I was a little disappointed on how similar most shades are in this palette.
The brown shade is very smooth and pigmented. But given the 3 other shades are somewhat light colors, I wish one of them can be deeper to bridge the gap between the shade range in this palette.
Other than the shade issues (for my skin tone) that I mentioned above, I think the qualities of these Bobbi Brown eyeshadows are very high and feels luxury.
2 eye looks created using the Bobbi Brown Luxe Encore Eye Shadow Palette Burgundy
First of all, I want to say that all these bouncy gelee formula do not perform well with brushes, especially synthetic ones. I used either finger or natural hair brushes to make these looks.
I used all the shades in this palette to create the first eye look. The pink at the lower right (the last shade in the swatch) has a hot or neon pink shift on the lid. For my own taste, I wish it showed up more like the peachy pink as on the swatches.
The brown cannot be picked up well with a brush and it is hard to use a finger to deepen the outer corner without looking too unnatural. So I just used a brush and kept working to build up the shade.
In this second eye look I didn’t use the rosy pink shade at the lower corner, but the peachy pink on top still shows a similar shift as in the first eye look. I was a bit surprised by that. Although I like this look as it is more subtle and wearable to work, I wish there are more distinction among the shades on the lid.
Final Thoughts
I feel somewhat torn about this Bobbi Brown Luxe Encore Eye Shadow Palette Burgundy. On one hand, it is a very elegant and luxury palette, the eyeshadow are made with high standard and the packaging is amazing. But on the other hand, having all other competitions in the market, it is underwhelming for the performance of this palette.
Being someone who prefer light and subtle eye looks, I still think this Bobbi Brown eyeshadow palette is too sheer for my liking. If you like a wash of color and a pink shift, as well as this type of eyeshadow texture, I think it is a fun palette to use.
I will rate this Bobbi Brown Luxe Encore Eye Shadow Palette Burgundy as:
- Texture: 9/10
- Color payoff: 6/10
- Longevity on eye lid: 8/10
- Quality consistency among shades: 9/10
- Color scheme uniqueness: 5/10
- Affordability: 6/10
