In the last month or so, I have been searching for a medium to large sized empty magnetic palette, which also has to be well-made, high-quality, sturdy and affordable (below $10 USD). I know it sounds quite an impossible search, right?! But I’m so glad I found it and I want to share with you guys about my finding! It is the Tarte tarteist™ PRO custom magnetic palette!
In my recent haul from Tarte, I got the tarteist™ PRO custom magnetic palette in leopard print. Before getting too excited about the sale price (it was only $9 USD, plus a 20% off promotion when I bought it!), I was trying to search online for a review of the product with dimensions and other information. To my surprise, I couldn’t find any information on how large it was (even on the Tarte website) or an actual review then. So I think it would be helpful to some of you guys who are interested in it and want to know more!
The palette is quite weighty and feels luxurious! As you can see from the picture, the outside of the palette (front and back alike) has some fur pattern embossed, with the metal Tarte logo. It is very elegant and high quality. It doesn’t seem to catch dirt easily.
Although it is still made of cardboard, it feels very sturdy and protective to the pans inside. I think it is a real steal if you are only paying $9 USD for it! Not to say with a further discount (often they give you promotional discount if you subscribe to them).
Size of the magnetic palette
The outside dimension is 6.5 inch x 6.4 inch x 1.4 inch. The inside compartment where you can put your makeup is 5.7 inch x 5.7 inch x 0.5 inch.
Inside quality and capacity
The inside of the palette has a big, high quality mirror that can let you do your makeup easily. While the wrapping around the mirror is a nice smooth ribbon material, it shows a touch of craftsmanship! The edge of the magnetic part of the palette looks like plastic to me, you know sometimes in some lower quality magnetic palettes, they wrap the edge of the magnetic tray with cardboard or paper and the wrapping is a bit wrinkly. That is absolutely not happening in this one.
So for me, I use it to keep some of my Colourpop Super Shock shadows (those at the top left corner), some from the BH Cosmetics Zodiac Love Signs palette (the rectangular and other circular pans next to the Colourpop ones). The last one I put there is a Make Up Forever shadow (left lower corner). Next I’m planning to depot some of my ABH palette and pop them in as well.
Final Thoughts
Overall, I HIGHLY recommend this magnetic palette from Tarte. I saw they also have other empty magnetic palettes on sale, however, I think most of them are smaller and some are of somewhat hard-to-use shape that may potentially waste some space if you don’t have shadows that fit well. All in all, I rate this magnetic palette as:
- Size: 10/10 (I regard it as large palette, it is perfect if you’re looking for that size)
- Quality: 10/10
- Sturdiness/protectiveness: 10/10
- Weight: 9/10 (it is pretty weighty in the sense that it feels substantial, but also a bit on the heavy side if you want to carry it in your purse for travel or something)
- Affordability: 10/10 (very good compared with similar items in the market, grab it while you can!)
