(*affiliate link) This is another new release from Colourpop! I am really amazed by them as they were still able to release about an eyeshadow palette per month even though so many things happened in 2020! This Colourpop wine and only pressed powder palette was released couple weeks ago from their website. I picked up the set with the matching liquid liner wine not? Why not, right?!
It maybe a shocking news to some of you, but I do not own any Colourpop eyeshadow palette. This wine & only palette (and another palette that I purchased in the same order) is the first one in my collection! I do own their super shock shadow though.
Since my last post on the Nars St Germain des Prés eyeshadow palette* (reviewed here), I think I am somehow attracted to red or burgundy tone eyeshadows recently. This Colourpop wine & only palette is very red and ‘winey’, maybe it’s the red packaging that makes it exceptionally hot!

About the Colourpop wine and only palette and liquid liner wine not?
This Colourpop wine and only palette* retails for $12 USD for 9 shadows, each one contains 0.3 oz or 9 g of products. The pans are a little bit small compared with a pan in a regular eyeshadow palette, but I think it is reasonable given the affordable price.
The Colourpop liquid liner in wine not?* retails for $8 USD and contains 0.01 fl oz or 0.35 ml of product. It is a felt tip liquid liner with very fine tip.
The bundle of the wine and only palette with the liquid liner wine not? retailed for $18 USD if I remembered correctly. However I think this set has already been sold out and may not come back.
The Colourpop wine and only palette and liquid liner wine not? are sold directly on Colourpop‘s* website. Although the palette is current out of stock, I think they will restock at least once more in the near future. Another possibility is it may appear at Ulta* as well later. So stay tuned if you’re interested in this palette.
Colourpop describes this wine and only palette as ‘highly pigmented’, ‘ultra-velvety and silky’, ‘long wearing’ and ‘contains a unique combination of softer powders which adheres easily to the eyes, gives a soft focus effect, and blends smoothly and evenly’.
However, there are quite a number of shades (5 out of 9) in this wine and only palette with a *, meaning they are ‘not intended for use in the immediate eye area’. So please be aware of this when you are using them. It is always the safest to make sure you are not allergic to the product, by testing it on a small area on the underside of your arm (where the skin is thinner and softer) beforehand.
Ingredients and formulation of the Colourpop wine and only palette and liquid liner wine not?
The full lists of ingredients of the Colourpop wine and only palette and liquid liner wine not? are both on the Colourpop‘s* website.
I was actually pleasantly surprised that talc is not listed as ingredient in all but one shadow in this palette. The shade grape-ful at the lower right corner contains talc, but only as the last few ingredients. I feel like Colourpop is moving their pressed powder eyeshadow away from talc, which is a good news. I would definitely buy more of their palettes if they do not use talc.
As talked about before, more than half of the shades in this wine & only palette are pressed pigments that are labeled as ‘not intended for use in the immediate eye area’. So, beware to test it before using on your eye area.
For the formulation of this Colourpop wine and only palette is very smooth, all the shades are super pigmented and soft. I did not notice any difference in application for the shades with * (that are said to be not intended for the eyes).
The wine not? liquid liner is pretty standard. I was hoping it is not pigmented and one-swipe pigmentation even on the lid. The swatch (see below) is pretty opaque, but it does not work the same on the lid. Maybe it was because the liner was applied on top of the eyeshadows.
Swatches for the Colourpop wine and only palette and liquid liner wine not?
The shadows in this Colourpop wine and only palette are in general very soft and smooth as noticed above.
There are 4 matters, 4 shimmers and 1 matte with sparkles (grape-ful). Some of the shades are pretty similar to me even on the arm swatches. They are slightly different tone of each other, such as the 2 burgundy red matte shades at the end of the first and second row.
I am glad they put 3 brown or red-brown shades with different textures at the bottom row. This makes the palette more versatile than just making red eye looks.
As the shades are soft and buttery, it is easy to pick up a tone of shades using finger or eye brush, I had a slight issue of having some of the matte shades crumbled up during the swatches.
2 eye looks for the Colourpop wine and only palette
I like this first look, although I don’t usually wear bold eye looks in daily life. You maybe able to adjust the intensity of the look by either sheering out or building up some shades, or just use 1-2 shades to create a simple look.
All the shades used in creating this first look work very well with each other, they blend easily with a fluffy brush.
In this second eye look, I was attempting to create a more brown-centered look focusing on the bottom row of the palette at the crease and outer corner.
The look came out pretty, and there is still a hint of burgundy red. This is my favorite look out of the two. To make a look a bit more distinct than just red, I wish they replace one of the red/coral shimmer with a light gold shimmer.
In both looks, I used the wine not? liquid liner to draw the wing. I needed to go over the wing several times to fill in the color. Although the liner does not work as well or opaque as in the swatch, it got the job done.
Final Thoughts
Overall, I like this Colourpop wine and only pressed powder palette and would highly recommend it if you are looking for such red/burgundy color story. I can easily see the quality of this palette exceeding many high end palettes available from Sephora. Thinking about this, I can see why Colourpop is such a successful and popular brand! High quality, creative, fun (just see how cute are the Colourpop Furriends Forever super shock shadow* duo here!) and very affordable compared with what are in the current market.
I would definitely want to review and try out more of the Colourpop Pressed Powder eyeshadow palette this year!
