Following my first purchase of this new Dior 5 Couleurs Couture Eye Shadow collection in 879 Rouge Trafalgar, I can’t help but getting more of them! This time I got the Dior 769 Tutu palette!
I got mine at the 15% off sales in Macy’s earlier. Just a little shout-out for Macy’s: they have a pretty complete selection of these new Dior quints in store all the time (11 of them, the other two: ‘539 Grand Bal’ and ‘559 Poncho’ are exclusive to Dior’s website), plus they ship out pretty fast at this moment (mine was delivered only 3 work days after I ordered)! While Nordstrom doesn’t have as many in stock and it takes more than a week to deliver, plus occasional delays. I recently also got another two of these Dior eyeshadow palettes from the Nordstrom site a day after I ordered this Tutu palette on Macy’s, but it still hasn’t been delivered plus the tracking was not updated since 5 days ago, probably the package is lost…

Formula and shades of Dior 769 Tutu
Dior 769 Tutu is a cool tone palette, I bought it mainly for the shade in the left lower corner! Which shade is the most eye-catchy for you?
The formula of this palette is basically the same as the one in the quint 879 Rouge Trafalgar that I reviewed earlier. I think they are a step-up from the older Dior eyeshadow palettes in general. The shades are very creamy, pigmented and easy to blend without much fallout. Most of the shades in this palette is opaque on one swipe. But don’t expect them to be as pigmented as some other palettes in the market like the Too faced Salted Caramel eyeshadow palette (I was impressed by how pigmented this little palette is!).
There is only one topper shade on the upper right corner that are not pigmented but only sparkles, which is very similar to the one in the Rouge Trafalgar quint, if not identical!
Actually the color story of this palette reminds me of a classic quint from Dior, the 156 Femme-Fleur.
They might have came up with a couple of quints with a similar color story in the past too. So it seems this quint is not very unique among the Dior eyeshadow palettes. But as long as this color scheme is popular, I guess it’s smart of them to re-promote a similar color story it this completely new formula.
Swatches for Dior 769 Tutu and comparisons with other Dior eyeshadow palettes
I was impressed when I swatched the first shade (upper left, first shade in the swatch) in this Dior eyeshadow palette! I felt the same when I swatched Rouge Trafalgar too. It is just very smooth, soft and ethereal, you’ve to try it yourself!
Comparing with Dior 879 Rouge Trafalgar, they don’t have much similarity EXCEPT they have the almost-the-same upper right shade!
The purple shade on the Tutu palette (left lower) looks like a duo-chrome, it is so pretty! The video below shows how the color changes in some of the shades in both palettes.
As I mentioned in the last session, the upper right shade is a topper and doesn’t give you much except some sparkles to finish your look. I think eyeshadow palettes nowadays always include one or three of these topper shades. I don’t against them, but I just start to feel it would be more worth it if there is more pigmentation to the toppers and less grainy. It also feels like they tend to develop hard pan more easily, like the feel from some Charlotte Tilbury eye quads. Although I haven’t had any experience of Dior eyeshadow palettes developing hard pan yet.
Here I also attach a photo comparing the swatches of Dior 769 Tutu and Dior 156 Femme-Fleur (yes, mine is a mini palette), in case some of you guys have the latter one in your collection already.
Interestingly, in the Dior 156 Femme-Fleur palette, the left lower and the middle shades are somewhat comparable to the bright purple shade in the Tutu palette! Swatching the 2 palettes make me realize the old formula is a bit harder (it is also possible that my mini palette is just drying up), although the quality is still good.
Ingredients of Dior 769 Tutu
Similar to the Dior 879 Rouge Trafalgar palette, this Dior 769 Tutu palette also has talc as the main ingredients for almost all of the shades in the palette.
2 eye looks using Dior 769 Tutu
I used all the shades in this Dior quint to create my first eye look. Although the bright purple (lower left) is still very pretty on the lid, it requires some efforts and layering to make it show up. It is honestly a bit disappointing. It is also less bright than what I expected from the swatches.
However, again as a person who does not wear bold makeup (maybe occasionally in a night out only), this level of pigmentation and the combination of the shades to make an eye look is just right. Afterall, the purple is still very pretty!
This second eye look is intended to be lighter than the first one. I like how soft this is. I used the bright purple again but this time to deepen the outer corner.
Of note, the topper shade (upper right) in this Dior 769 Tutu palette somehow is much harder to show up on the lid compares with the one in Dior 879 Rouge Trafalgar. The shimmer in eye look #1 is solely due to the bright purple shade.
I would say this palette is pretty pigmented when swatched with my fingers, but on the eye, it is a little bit murky.
Final Thoughts
Overall, this Dior 769 Tutu eyeshadow palette is beautiful and I would recommend if you’re not on a budget for makeup. However, compare with the Dior 879 Rouge Trafalgar, I think it is less pigmented. The quality of Rouge Trafalgar feels a bit higher and more consistent. Shades in Rouge Trafalgar show up as expected on the swatches and on the lid as well. But this Tutu palette seems not showing up as well compared with the swatches.
Besides, in the Tutu palette, the shades on the upper left and in the middle are not quite distinguishable on the lid. Plus the topper shade was not even showing up. This make this palette less versatile.
I will rate this Dior 769 Tutu eyeshadow palette as:
- Texture: 8/10
- Color payoff: 6/10
- Longevity on eye lid: 7.5/10
- Quality consistency among shades: 6/10
- Color scheme uniqueness: 5/10
- Affordability: 5/10
