Nars Climax Eyeshadow Palette
Nars Climax Eyeshadow Palette

(*affiliate link) Hey Guys! Finally writing my review of the new Nars Climax Eyeshadow Palette*! Moving into fall, we see more of these sultry color story, many featuring a blue or navy blue. Although I’m not much a blue eyeshadow wearer, I am very much attracted to cool tone navy blue shades! I can say I bought this Nars Climax Eyeshadow Palette mainly for the blue shade at the corner!

The color story of this palette may seem very much like a nighttime eyeshadow palette… at least that was what I thought! But after I started using it, I think it is extremely versatile for a day time look, even wear to the office!

The packaging of this Nars Climax Eyeshadow Palette is made of plastic and has a decent weight to it. As most of Nars’ eyeshadow palettes, sometimes it can be a little hard to open the palette! But overall, I like the simple design and the red packaging, which feels very sturdy for travel.

Ingredients and formulation of the Nars Climax Eyeshadow Palette

The list of ingredients on the box packaging is the same as the one you can find online.

If you’re familiar with the Nars eyeshadows, you may already know that their matte shadows are mostly made with talc as the first ingredient. The 2 lighter mattes here are the same, but the lower 2 mattes (Up In Smoke, Public Eye) have talc as the second and fourth ingredient. I personally do not notice any difference in application whether talc is used as the major ingredient or not.

There is also no fragrance or any kind of smell from the eyeshadows.

For the formulation, they say the mattes are improved formula to be more silky and lightweight. Moreover, it’s the first time I heard that mattes can be worn wet! I have not tried to wear them wet, but am interested to try that. Let me know if you want me to report on how it goes when the mattes are used wet!

The mattes are very soft and very easy to blend out. None of them are patchy at all, including the deep mattes! Actually the army green and deep brown mattes are extremely pigmented and I recommend using it very light-handed first and build them up slowly. They feel like very high quality shadows.

The two deeper shimmers (Hooked, Night Rhythm) are super pigmented. They are also the type of shadows that can have more fallout, especially when using them with a more fluffy brush. Their texture remind me of the shade Sweet Lucy in Melt Cosmetics Mary Jane Eyeshadow Palette* (reviewed here)!

The shades Envious and Next Level are more like regular shimmer imo, even though Nars calls Envious a metallic. For the shade Envious, I can already see hard pan developed only after a few uses. I didn’t use it wet, just either using brush or my finger. It is a little disappointing to see the hard pan so soon!

The shimmer shade Passion Play is one of the prettiest shade in this palette! I love it. It is relatively more sheer when applied by itself. BUT is it super stunning when applied on top of other deeper shades like the icy navy blue (Night Rhythm)!! Passion Play makes the price of this 9 pan palette more justifiable!

Overall, other than the one hard pan from Envious, I am very happy with the color story and the formulation of this Nars Climax Eyeshadow Palette!

Swatches for the Nars Climax Eyeshadow Palette

All the shades in this Nars Climax Eyeshadow Palette were swatched beautifully. They are all very pigmented. The mattes are very smooth and non-patchy. There is no dub in this palette. All the shades are also swatched true to the color appears in the pans.

3 eye looks created using the Nars Climax Eyeshadow Palette

I like to wear this first eye look to work! It is not too showy or loud for a day time office look! It is very easy to create and the look lasted for a whole day.

I have mixed feeling about this second look. It is a bit too dark for my liking. I may need to bring in another 1 or 2 mid-tone mattes to blend out the edges and to make this look more polished.

This is one of the looks that I used the champagne shimmer (Passion Play) and put it on top of Night Rhythm shade. I love this look! Sultry but not too dark smokey!

Final Thoughts

Overall, I think this Nars Climax Eyeshadow Palette is a great success from Nars! I love this palette and will want to use it day and night time! This palette is versatile for different occasions despite there are only 9 shadows.

Nars eyeshadows can be hit or miss sometimes but every shade here in this Climax palette are hits for me. There can be some tricks in application for the amount of fallout from the shimmers and dustiness from the mattes, but those are easily fixable.

For the price, it is pricy, as are all Nars products. I do not regret getting this palette. Given the performance and quality of the eyeshadows inside, I think it deserve a try.

I will rate this Nars Climax Eyeshadow Palette as:

  • Texture: 8.5/10
  • Color payoff: 9.5/10
  • Longevity on eye lid: 9.5/10
  • Quality consistency among shades: 9/10
  • Color scheme uniqueness: 9/10
  • Affordability: 7/10
