Nars Summer Unrated eyeshadow palette
Nars Summer Unrated eyeshadow palette

(*affiliate) Hey Guys! This is the recently released Nars Summer Unrated eyeshadow palette *! I got mine off Nars’ website *, but it is also currently available from Sephora * (VIB sale is going on, from April 7th-11th 2022!).

This Nars Summer Unrated eyeshadow palette is based on the best-known and best-selling shades from Nars: Laguna, Orgasm, and Taj Mahal. This palette is very rosy in my opinion. Maybe it’s the time of the year again that many brands come out with rose-themed eyeshadow palettes! Some of the examples are the Patrick Ta’s Major Dimension II Rose Eyeshadow Palette * and Too Faced Born This Way Sunset Stripped Eyeshadow Palette *! Although I’m not a big fan of rosy palettes, I’m always attracted to Nars’ color stories! This is a beautiful palette that I know I have to have it!

As usual, the packaging of this Nars 16-pans palette is the classic black matte bottom with a gorgeous front design! This time is a reflective peachy pink!

This is a limited edition palette and is made in Italy.

Since this Nars Summer Unrated eyeshadow palette is inspired by their best-selling shades, there are at least 3 repeat shades (Laguna, Orgasm, and Taj Mahal) in this palette. In addition, some of the shades are very similar to those in the Bijoux palette- one of my favorite from Nars! I’ll compare the swatches later. You may also see my live swatch video at https://youtu.be/jgBz8cJZ5k4, which I compared some shades in the 2 palettes towards the end of the video.

Ingredients and formulation of the Nars Summer Unrated eyeshadow palette

Majority of the shadows in this Nars Summer Unrated eyeshadow palette has talc as the main ingredient, except some shimmer and glitter shades. You may read the list of ingredients on Nars’ website.

There palette is however free of parabens, formaldehydes, formaldehyde-releasing agents, phthalates, mineral oil, retinyl palmitate, oxybenzone, coal tar, hydroquinone, sulfates SLS & SLES, and triclosan. There is also no detectable fragrance.

For the formulation of the eyeshadows, they are very blendable, and non-patchy. I just love how the shimmer and glitter shades work together to give the shine and sophisticated looks.

The shimmers are very creamy and easy to pick up by finger and eye brush. Sometimes I also use the shimmers as transition shades. I think they are more pigmented than the mattes, which are buildable.

As for the longevity, I wish they lasted until the end of the day when I wash my face. In many times, the shadows just fade away after a work day.

I would say every shade performs very well in the swatches. Depending on your skin tone, I think some of them can be used as blush, bronzer or highlighters as well.

I love the color story of this palette! Although some of the shades appear rather similar in the pan (like the whole column on the far-left), they work perfectly together for the right depth transition.

It’s interesting that some shades appear a little bit different than they are swatches. The most striking one for me is the shade Bad Intentions.

If there’s something that I could change about this palette, I think I’ll want more difference in tone or even shade for the matte and shimmer formulas. In general, I prefer lighter colors for shimmers. It is actually a bit outside of my comfort zone to wear deep shimmer or glitter shades, especially for the center of the lid.

Having said that, I still love this palette and glad I got it!

Comparison with selected shades from the Nars Bijuox palette

In each pair of swatch above, the shade on the right is from the new Nars Summer Unrated eyeshadow palette, and that on the left is from the Bijuox palette.

As you can see, many of the shades compared are very similar, or at least not really distinguishable on the lid. I think the shadows in this Summer Unrated palette are slightly smoother, and more even pigmentation.

So if you have the Bijuox palette, you may have a number of similar shades already. The Summer Unrated palette is almost a lighter or toned down version of the Bijuox palette.

3 eye looks created using the Nars Summer Unrated eyeshadow palette

Eye look 1
Eye look 1

This is the first look I created. This look is very warm and I love the bronze coral shade in the middle of the lid! I would definitely wear this look often!

Eye look 2
Eye look 2

This second look is more pink and lightest among the 3 looks. It feels more springy than summer to me.

Eye look 3

The third one is more of an evening look for me. The star of the show is the deep raspberry shade Bad Intentions! I don’t have too many of this kind of shade in my collection, I’m happy it’s in this palette!

Final Thoughts

Overall, I adore this Nars Summer Unrated eyeshadow palette! I love this as much as the Nars Bijuox eyeshadow palette! (My favorite Nars palette is still the Climax eyeshadow palette! Reviewed here) I will recommend both palettes if you’re interested in the color stories- although there are some similarities between the two, Bijuox is deeper and cooler in tone. While Summer Unrated leans warmer and more daytime casual look in a sense.

There is something about Nars eyeshadow palettes that always makes me feel amazed! This palette is no exception.

As for the price, if $ 59 USD is affordable, I think the packaging, together with the quality of the shadows, plus the eye looks that you can create with these 16-pans are well-worth it. I would highly recommend you to give it a try!

In summary, I will rate this Nars Summer Unrated eyeshadow palette as:

  • Texture: 9/10
  • Color payoff: 8.5/10
  • Longevity on eye lid: 8.5/10
  • Quality consistency among shades: 9/10
  • Color scheme uniqueness: 8/10
  • Affordability: 7/10
