Natasha Denona Glam Palette

Natasha Denona has just dropped the new GLAM palette in September 2020! It retails for $65 USD and is available at Sephora and Natasha Denona’s website. It is the same size as her other $65 USD 15-pan eyeshadow palettes. The shades are mostly neutral with 5 mattes, 7 metallics and 3 of her crystal formula. The packaging is plastic and is very study for traveling. The eyeshadows can be easily popped out from the back of the palette. It is made in Italy.

Similar to other smaller Natasha Denona 15-pan eyeshadow palettes, 10 out of 15 of the shadows in this Glam palette has talc as the first ingredient. It may be relevant for those of you who are sensitive to talc. I personally have no sensitivity towards talc, but I always try to avoid talc-heavy eyeshadows when possible. I remember most of her more expensive bigger 15-pan eyeshadow palettes do not contain talc (or only very little in 1 or 2 shades). I am not sure if the choice of ingredients is related to the cost of the palette and if talc is cheaper to get.

Having said that, the shades in this palette are very creamy and smooth. The mattes (“crease”, “transition”, “smoke”, “blend” and “lash line”) are very blendable and not patchy. However, beware that they are a bit dusty when you dip your brush into the pans. So don’t forget to tap the brush before applying!

The metallic shades (“center eye lid”-1st row, “inner corner”-2nd row, “center eye lid”-2nd row, “center eye lid”-3rd row middle, “outer eye lid”-3rd row on the left, “outer eye lid”-3rd row on the right, “brow bone”) are buttery smooth. The payoff is opaque with just one swipe.

Her special crystal formula is more sparkly (“outer eye lid”-1st row, “inner corner”-1st row, “center eye lid”-3rd row) than the metallics. I love how they make the eye lid more glossy but are not glittery or gritty on the eye.

As you can see from the swatches, all the shades are pretty smooth. I appreciate a good matte. It saves a lot of work and time!

In terms of color representation, most of the swatches are true to the shades in the pan. The only two that surprised me are the “center eye lid” on the 1st row and the “center eye lid” on the 2nd row. The former seems much more pink when swatched than in the pan (looks more coral), while the latter one is deeper in the swatch than in the pan (seems light silvery).

I tried to incorporate as many metallic and crystal shades as possible to create my looks.

In each look, I used 2-3 mattes for transition and deepening of the outer corner. Then a different metallic shade for the outer third of my lid, a light metallic shade for the inner corner and finished by adding a center lid shade from the crystal formula.

I think the shades are easy to use and I can create pretty looks even for non-professional makeup lovers! It took me less than 5 minutes to do one eye. I like an easy cool tone eye look for day-time glam!

Final Thoughts for the Natasha Denona Glam palette

This Glam palette is indeed the first Natasha Denona eyeshadow palette that I own and keep. In the past, I did purchase some of her smaller palettes, but the quality was not what I expected, so I did not keep them.

I think the Glam palette is a thumbs up and a hit for me! The quality is good and easy to use. I was tempted to get the Biba palette for a while because of the color story. I am glad Natasha Denona came up with a neutral palette that is so wearable and versatile. I appreciate she didn’t put a pop of shade, like a blue or green, in the palette, but a uniform color story.

Although the Glam palette has a lot to be liked, there are things that I wish it was different:

The metallic formula is not outstanding enough on the eye lid. I wish they are more shiny and noticeable (like the “pop” shade in Charlotte Tilbury‘s luxury eyeshadow quads). They are somewhat lackluster to me.

Some of the outer eye lid shades are too similar on the eye. If she can change one of those “outer eye lid” shades into a matte, or even a different color (while adhering to the overall color story), it would be perfection.

So I will rate the Natashad Denona Glam palette as:

  • Texture: 9.5/10
  • Color payoff: 8.5/10
  • Longevity on eye lid: 10/10
  • Quality consistency among shades: 10/10
  • Color scheme uniqueness: 8/10
  • Affordability: 7/10

Update after 2 weeks of use: 2 additional eye looks

I’ve been using this palette for about 2 weeks now. Here I made two more looks with more refined techniques. I was attempting to make a new eye look that I enjoyed with this palette. However, comparing with the 4 looks that I had before, I feel like they are still similar.

My impression is that there are only a small handful of looks (2 imo) that I can make out of this palette, that have discernible difference on the eyes.

Update after 2 weeks of use: updated thoughts

Because this is THE Natasha Denona Glam palette, I have a lot of motivation to try out the product more thoroughly and update my thoughts!

Basically I came to the same conclusion as I did in my initial Final Thoughts above. I maintain that the quality of this palette is superb. However, there are only 2, maybe 3 at most, different looks you can get from it. Although the looks that I got are nice enough and I like them!

The more I use it, the stronger I feel like the transition matte shades are not enough to support more look varieties. And I also wish the shimmers in this palette are more shimmery or sparkly to make the looks stand out more. (Hmmm…maybe this is due to my recent review of the Dior 5 Couleurs Couture Eye Shadow Palette in 879 Rouge Trafalgar.. my bar on a shimmery eye look has dramatically increased…)

Although whether the $65 USD is well-spent or not largely depends on how much you like the brand and how often you reach for the product, I would personally not be repurchasing this kind of palette again even if it is from Natasha.

I would still recommend this Natasha Denona Glam palette to those of you who just want an everyday palette that don’t require much time and effort before you can get out of the door. But this is not my favorite palette especially for the price.
