(*affiliate link) This time we are looking at the Too Faced Be My Lover doll size eye shadow palette*. Too Faced is recently on a roll for their mini eye shadow palettes! From the Salted Caramel palette (reviewed here) released in December 2020 to the recent 4 mini palettes in That’s My Jam* (reviewed here), Kitty Likes to Scratch*, Let’s Play* and Light My Fire*.
The Salted Caramel palette was a real hit for me, but not so much for the That’s My Jam palette. How about this Be My Lover palette?

About the Too Faced Be My Lover doll size eye shadow palette
This Too Faced Be My Lover doll size eye shadow palette retails for $27 USD. There are 4 true mattes, 1 matte with sparkles and 3 shimmers. Each square pan contains 0.02 oz or 0.8 g; while the rectangular pans each has 0.03 oz or 0.95 g of product.
According to Too Faced, this Be My Lover palette was inspired by the sweet side of falling in love. The color choice and design of the tin packaging are made for the Valentine’s Day.
They also described the palette as ‘rich, high-impact shadow offer true color payoff’, and ‘silky-smooth formula blends effortlessly’.
This doll size eye shadow palette is bulk made in USA and assembled in Dominican Republic.
Ingredients and formulation for the Too Faced Be My Lover doll size eye shadow palette
One thing I was very surprised about this Too Faced Be My Lover doll size eye shadow palette, which is very different from the other 5 palettes I mentioned at the beginning, is that, this palette does not contain any talc in the ingredient list.
As far as I know, all Too Faced eye shadows (mostly for matte shades) contain talc. I actually do not feel too much of a difference in the quality or performance of these shadows compared with their other recent palettes. So I’m also not sure if these are really made with a different talc-free formula or they just omitted the ingredient accidentally. Also because they do not say anything about this in the production description.
If Too Faced is going to try a talc-free formula for their shadows, I would be the first person to support and rave about that!
The scent or fragrance added to this Be My Lover palette is a rose smell. It doesn’t smell like a fresh floral scent to me, but more like soapy and slightly old-lady perfumey imo. The smell is not overpowering, I barely can smell it when open the palette. I sort of have to get close to get the scent. It also does not linger on my eyes after application.
For the formulation of the shadows in this palette. I don’t think they are as soft as the Salted Caramel palette, but more like the quality of the That’s My Jam palette (reviewed here). They are not very pigmented either. If you look at my YouTube video (below), you’ll see how light are the colors on my skin, they do not have a strong color payoff, which can be good or bad depending on your preference. To me, it is acceptable as they can be built up with multiple layers (see the end of my YouTube video).
Swatches for the Too Faced Be My Lover doll size eye shadow palette
The shades in the swatches are payoff built from 2 (for shimmers) to 3 (for mattes) layers. The matte shades are on the drier side. For the 3 shimmers at the lower right, only the lilac shade is more creamy and smooth, but the other two (especially the deep purple at the right-most) are less creamy and slightly dry as well.
The color on the swatches look exactly the same as that in the pan. However when you apply the eye shadows on the lid with a brush, they tend to be more muted. I didn’t have any problem blending and building up the matte shades for my transition, except the deep brown at the upper right, which is somewhat patchy. I had to take more time to blend and smooth the shade out.
2 eye looks created using the Too Faced Be My Lover doll size eye shadow palette
As this palette is intended, I think it allows me to create romantic and sexy eye looks suitable for the Valentine’s Day! I like how soft and feminine this first eye look turned out. For the application, I don’t have much trouble making this look, except needing to spend some time to blend out and build up the deep brown for the outer corner. There was also no noticeable fall out.
This second look is also one of my favorites for the Valentine’s Day! Lilac is another shade that screams romantic! As the lilac shimmer in this Be My Lover palette is very creamy, opaque and sparkly, it makes this eye look pops more than the first one.
I like these two eye looks and I can think of more looks to be created using this little palette. I definitely like this Be My Lover palette more than the That’s My Jam palette in both performance and shade choice.
Final Thoughts
Overall, I like this Too Faced Be My Lover doll size eye shadow palette and the eye looks you can create. It is a fail-safe stand-alone palette if you’re looking for something handy for the Valentine’s Day. I don’t necessarily think the shadow formulae are better than their most recent mini palettes. You’ll need to build up the shadows for better color payoff.
I wish the color story of this palette was more unique and exciting. I almost overlooked this palette if I wasn’t looking for purple and lilac shades.
I will rate this Too Faced Be My Lover doll size eye shadow palette as:
- Texture: 6/10
- Color payoff: 6/10
- Longevity on eye lid: 7/10
- Quality consistency among shades: 6/10
- Color scheme uniqueness: 6/10
- Affordability: 7.5/10
