Dior has been rather active in releasing new quints from their 5 Couleurs Couture eyeshadow * lines in recent years! Some of their are limited edition but I do think these are permanent in the line.
The 5 quints came out this time are very wearable and tends to be nude palettes for different kind tones- although you may say 189 Blue Velvet is an exception from ‘very wearable’!
Nevertheless I love how they have several options of nude palettes and we’ll take a closer look at the qualities and details of them!
Before we move on, one thing I want to point out about the packaging of these new quints is that, the eyeshadow compact have a matte finish instead of the traditional glossy finish. In addition, the new ones do not come with a velvet pouch to hold the compact.

About the Dior 5 Couleurs Couture eyeshadow palettes in 189 Blue Velvet and 519 Nude Dentelle
Each of these new Dior 5 Couleurs Couture eyeshadow palettes in 189 Blue Velvet and 519 Nude Dentelle retails for $ 62 USD, which is the same as other quints in the line.
There is 0.24 oz or 7 g of products in each of 189 Blue Velvet and 519 Nude Dentelle, which is also the same as most of quints in the line.
It seems like each of the 5 new quints have slightly different combination of shimmers and mattes. In Blue Velvet, there are 2 mattes (bottom 2 deepest shades) and 3 shimmers.
For 519 Nude Dentelle, there are also 2 mattes (buttom 2 shades) and 3 shimmers.
According to Dior *, the Blue Velvet palette “celebrates the House’s love of velvet and blue, with eyeshadows in blue-tinged and lavender shades”, while the Nude Dentelle palette “layers beige and natural shades, like the techniques used in embroidery”.
Dior also explained that the new matte finished compact is to celebrate the 1st velvet edition of the iconic 5 Couleurs eyeshadow palette.
Both of these Dior quints are also made in France.
Ingredients and formulation of the Dior 5 Couleurs Couture eyeshadow palettes in 189 Blue Velvet and 519 Nude Dentelle
The list of ingredients can also be found on Dior’s website * for these 5 Couleurs Couture eyeshadow palettes. All of the shades in both quints have talc as the first ingredient- except one shade in each palette that is the 2nd ingredient.
It looks like they included more plant extract or oils in these shadows to provide nourishing effects on the lid. They also mentioned that it’s the first time ever to include cornflower extract in the shadows. Some of the benefits of cornflower extract are water retention and anti-inflammatory. It helps to sooth skins for redness.
For the formulation, I think the matte shades behave very much the same as some other previous quints in the line. However, I do think the shimmer shades here are softer and gives a more velvet look on the skin in general.
I actually think these shimmers will be really great for more mature eye lids, because they are less shimmery and more smoothing on the skin. Having said that, I think the looks generated are more subdue and low-key. So, if you’re looking for something more shimmery and pop, you might want to consider some former quints in the same line.
In the quint 189 Blue Velvet, most of the shades show up well and are pigmented. An exception is the middle shade, it is a beautiful plumy lavender in the pan and on my finger, but when it was swatched or even on my lid, it’s extremely difficult to get any pigment from it. I have to dug my finger in and swirled many times to pick up some pigment. It’s next to impossible to apply it with an eye brush in my experience.
For the quint 519 Nude Dentelle, all the shades show up well on me. They are not super pigmented like some other eyeshadow palettes (e.g. Too Faced Born This Way Sunset Stripped eyeshadow palette *, reviewed here; or the Nars Summer Unrated eyeshadow palette *, reviewed here). While the middle shade is more like a satin and the upper right shade is a ‘velvet’ shimmer, they appear very similar on the lid. This color story is pretty and suitable for everyday wear, but I always need to build the deeper shades up for the looks.
Swatches for the Dior 5 Couleurs Couture eyeshadow palettes in 189 Blue Velvet and 519 Nude Dentelle
I really love the color story of Blue Velvet! Although I rarely wear blue looks, blue eyeshadows just have all my attentions!
All of the shades swatched amazing on the arm (except the plumy lavender on the left most that I really needed to work for it)!
The matte shades all are very smooth and pigmented. Their colors are also very true to what you see in the pan. Whereas for the shimmers, for the most part, they swatched lighter than what I see in general, but they are still very velvety and smooth.
Eye looks created using the Dior 5 Couleurs Couture eyeshadow palettes in 189 Blue Velvet and 519 Nude Dentelle
First up is the look using 189 Blue Velvet! You could definitely using this quint to create a smokey look, or a lighter ones with mainly the shimmers. I tried to use all the shades and I love how this turned out! I also used a royal blue eyeliners to match it! I think Blue Velvet is a very versatile quint if you like a blue eyeshadow look! Definitely recommended!
Next up is the look created using Nude Dentelle! This is very wearable. In a sense that I feel I also have many times of this exact same color story in my collection. I also wish there was at least one light shimmer shades that give a little bit more sheen, instead of the satin skin shade. This is the less exciting quint among the two I reviewed here.
Final Thoughts
Overall, I think these Dior 5 Couleurs Couture eyeshadow palettes * in 189 Blue Velvet and 519 Nude Dentelle are beautiful quints and I like both of them. My favorite is 189 Blue Velvet.
I would highly recommend Blue Velvet if you’re interested in the color story, and looking for a high-end palette that have softer shades suitable for different skin textures.
For Nude Dentelle, I like it, but I don’t think it’s worth the price tag. There is nothing too special imo. Neither the color story nor the qualities of the shades.
